Everyone wants to achieve a strong and beautiful body, overflowing with health and fitness. There are many ways to achieve this, but some ways are better than others. One such way is to start doing resistance training, which pushes your body to its limits.

What Is Resistance Training?
The essence of resistance training is quite simple. It is the basic use of weight, machines and your personal body weight, in order to push your muscles and work them hard. It is known under other names, such as strength training and/or weight training. It is a helpful, strenuous and positive way to improve your body’s skills, ability and strength.
However, many people are under the assumption that resistance training is undertaken only by athletes and experienced trainers, in order to push their body to new heights. However, resistance training can be done by anyone, and it is not about building muscle, but rather about increasing the inherent strength of the body.
Resistance training focuses on building and toning your muscles, in order to carve your body into a lean and toned shape. Anyone can train in this way, from the young all the way up until the elderly. If you can move, then you can use this regime, regardless of your fitness levels, skills or previous training regimes. For people with low fitness levels, or of an older age, it is often recommended that free-weight resistance is used, or moderate intensity machines.

How Does Resistance Training Work?
Resistance training uses exercise equipment such as bench presses, dumbbells and more. These machines allow you to push against them, and resist the weight of the bench presses, or weights. In this way, the body has to adapt to the weight. This strengthens your cells through the process of hypertrophy or the enlarging and increasing of the nerve cells to help in the muscle contraction.
While resistance training is of benefit to the body, it is always best to consult your doctor. If you have a medical condition, pain or anything that could hinder you, then it is best to seek medical advice. This type of training is strenuous, and you need the proper equipment and medical clearance in order to engage in it in a safe and controlled manner.
However, even though the equipment is very helpful in this type of training, it can be done without resorting to expensive machines. Push ups, for example, is a way to use our own body weight to your advantage. Learning to do push ups effectively will test and build the strength of your muscles against your own body weight.

What Are the Benefits of Resistance Training?
1. Increased Bone Mineral Density
One positive aspect to resistance training is the fact that bone mineral density is steadily improved and increased. Since bones remodel frequently, this means that the tissues break down and build up at the same time. However, as a person ages, this process slows down and there is degeneration in their bone density. Resistance training is good at addressing this issue and improving bone density through physical exercise.

2. Increase Strength
Strong bones and strong muscles will be developed as you undergo the resistance training program.

3. Increase in Range of Activities
An increase in strength opens up a wide range of options for you to engage in, leaving you with the ability to engage in a fulfilling and active lifestyle, now that your body can support such tasks.

4. Reduce the Body Fat
Resistance training helps you turn ugly body fats into well defined muscles; thus making you look like a model. So expect the tone of the body to improve and your body to look better and leaner.

5. Improve State of the Elders
A huge benefit for those who are getting on in age, is the improved strength and mobility provided by resistance training. Improved health and decreased fitness issues means that there is a higher level of independence. This boosts confidence, moral and decreases the risks of injuries.

6. Improved Heart Condition
Those who consistently work on resistance training and exercise experience a decrease in cardiovascular problems, due to a lowered heart rate and a decrease in blood pressure levels. This is a significant decrease in the risk of heart problems, and is more than worth it.

Resistance training is hard work, and takes a lot of commitment, however, the benefits are well worth your time and effort. It should be noted, though, that it is important to do this type of training correctly, or you risk doing yourself an injury.
Always follow the recommendations from your doctor and your trainer, and do not try to push yourself if you feel pain due to the exercises. It is always important to start slow, and do things simply. As you build up your strength, you can build up the levels of complexity, challenge and weight. Your body will continuously improve, without causing you strain and injury. Take it slowly and work hard and you will see the results that you have always dreamed of.
